Who are we?

'peroXide' : : 19 years old - based in Kent.

Various members of the 28 Days Later UK Urban Exploration Forums.

What do we do?

Put simply, we find things that usually wouldn't be photographed, and then photograph them! This ranges from active industrial areas to abandoned buildings, and most things in-between! These areas are usually off-limits to the public, and often have many hazards which need to be negotiated, hence we do not encourage inexperienced people to copy what we do.

Why do we do it?!

Curiosity, and to get atmospheric or unusual photos. Particularly in derelict / disused sites, it's fascinating to walk around and see how the place has changed and experience the ambience.

And why won't we show our faces or publish our real names?

The answer's simple - we prefer to remain anonymous. We do nothing illegal to gain access to sites (contrary to popular belief, trespass isn't a criminal offence), but we still don't want our faces or names known by security guards.

Is what we do legal?

Yes. No criminal activities are committed in order to gain access to sites or whilst on the sites. We trespass and take photos - nothing more. The legality and value of urban exploration can be summed up by these quotes, taken directly from BBC South East's 'Inside Out' program:

The Health and Safety Executive: "This is not something we get involved in. We only deal with places of work."

Kent Police: "It is not a criminal offence."

The Environment Agency: "It's not something we would get involved in."

Kent Fire and Rescue Service : "It would only concern us if fires were being started."

The Society for the Protection of Ancient Buildings: "You have to commend these people."

Save Britain's Heritage: "We have had a few of our sites visited by these groups and they have provided us with great pictures via their websites."

English Heritage: A source said he actually uses Urban Explorer websites for more information about locations he's having difficulty getting permission to enter himself.
